  • Punga Problem

I have a punga that's been overtaken with ivy. I'm pulling the ivy away but the trunk looks dry where I've yanked the ivy off and is kind of breaking up a bit. Ferns are growing from the top. Will it survive or is it past it?

My sympathies re the Ivy. It cost us a thousand to have the Ivy and Ponga logs (rotted out by the Ivy and being posted wrong way up) hauled away. There had been five or six houses in the subdivision all fenced the same, and we splits the three-way cost with the two neighours who wanted a replacement.
Although a Ponga fence can be attractive, logs "planted" the wrong way up will not grow as trees, amd those "planted the right way up will grow - if rot doesn't get them first.
